***UTSA/Incarnate Word Baseball Game Thread***

Where: Roadrunner Field
Time: 4pm (Time moved up due to weather)

Incarnate Word (4-4) - Southland Conference

The Cardinals just wrapped up the Irish Alamo Invitational where they went 2-2 beating Villanova and Northwestern and losing to Notre Dame twice. If you look at their wins the 4-4 start is a bit deceiving. They lost their opening series vs Northwestern who is a decent team. They beat Prairie View A&M who is 2-5 with wins only against Our Lady of the Lake (DII, DIII?) Both Northwestern and Villanova have a combined record of 2-12.

Last year, Incarnate Word finished 18-32 (12th place out of 13) in the Southland. The Cardinal team is definitely improving though since making the jump from D2 to D1. This 2015 team has 6 JUCO transfers that all appear to be leading the charge offensively. Matt Morris (JR-Transfer) leads the team with a .429 Avg, 12 H, 6 RBIs, 2 HR, 7 BB and Ethan McGill (SR-Transfer) coming in at .345 Avg, 10 H, 3 RBIs, 3 Runs

It appears that Coach Marshall is going to start Aaron Burns (1-1, 4.91 ERA, 3.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) If you recall, Burns started vs Texas and was quickly pulled earning the loss. He pitched in the Bryant series on Saturday in relief where he shined and earned the win. Incarnate Word will likely counter with Churchill freshmen John Schull (4.91 ERA, 7 H, 4 ER, 5 K, 2 BB)

This is a must win game for UTSA. I say that because UTSA has struggled mightily vs Tuesday opponents. It's difficult to roll up to Austin and earn a win, but playing a struggling Southland team at home should result in a victory. Of course this is baseball and anything can happen but a loss here would really hurt UTSA's RPI.

[Basketball] UTSA vs UTEP

Round 2 is tonight! 8pm tip off. Roadrunners will be in El Paso with hopes of splitting the season series.

Miners are sitting at the #2 spot in the CUSA standings with a 10-3 record, 18-7 overall. It's no surprise that the Miners have been a beast through out the season. The Miners are riding a six game win-streak coming into tonight's game. Vince Hunter has been outstanding on both ends of the floor for the Miners. He leads the team in scoring averaging 15.8 ppg and 9.6 rpg. He's quick on the block and has an excellent mid-range game. Julian Washburn and Earvin Morris are a couple of reliable guys that contribute and are fun to watch as well. Defensively, the Miners are stout. Their length and ability to get back and set up their D in transition is impressive. They have the speed to get guys in front of the ball early or clog the lane to deter shots during dribble penetration. On offense, the Miners have a nice collection of scoring threats on the floor. They move well without the ball and quick to expose you on missed defensive assignments or rotations.

UTSA is a much improved team coming into tonight's game, especially on the road. We'll need the team to be firing on all cylinders if we want to come out with the win. We can expect Jeromie and Kaj to get their tonight but I'd like to see consistent contributions from our other starters as well as the bench. With UTEP's length, getting the good looks inside will be limited. Our guards should be on the lookout for the slips in the interior D and feed it inside quickly. Any points coming from the outside will be a bonus to tonight's game. If Bowie or Keon are hitting shots from outside that is forcing the Miners defense to open up and help our bigs get those high percentage looks inside.
Our defense tonight needs to be tight. Guys need to be aware of where their coverage is at all times. Throughout this season it's been proven that UTSA is not very strong defending the baseline. We gave up a couple dunks in our last outing with UTEP that could have been easily contested with a switch or roll to the weak side. Limiting our penalties is a key to tonight's game.

Audio for tonight's game is available on 92.5 KBUC. GoUTSA.com has the following link available but not sure if you'll have to pay to view. http://www.utepathletics.com/collegesportslive/?media=474666

GO RUNNERS!!!

2016 QB Moses Reynolds

This is a guy that I've been quietly hyping in private for the past year. Reynolds is a skinny 6'2" QB at John Jay HS in SA. Playing for a school that is not traditionally known for having DI talent, he's managed to avoid the attention of football scouts just like his brother did. His brother spent a year at JUCO before becoming Texas A&M's offensive MVP in 2014. Let me know what you think of Reynolds. He has a hitch in his delivery but throws with impressive velocity and runs well. Really hope UTSA has invited him to junior day.

[Basketball] UTSA vs Charlotte

Saturday will be the "Money-back Guarantee" game, according to Coach T. Coach is challenging the people of SA to come out to the Convo and watch us go up against Charlotte. If you did not enjoy the game, UTSA will fully refund your ticket purchases.

2PM TIP-OFF[/B]

UTSA is riding the momentum of a three game win streak after defeating a well respected ODU squad. Hill (11pts), Kaj (11pts), Keon (21pts) and Bowie (16pts) all had outstanding games in that contest. Christian Wilson also contributed 8pts; six of those came from outside in crunch time that kept us in the game late.

I'd expect that UTSA will continue the up-tempo game they've been showing all season. Pushing the ball up-court and looking to attack inside has been UTSAs bread and butter. The Kaj and Hill combo in the block seems to be an unstoppable force lately. Our aggressiveness in the paint has forced our opponents to put us on the charity stripe with point opportunities while the cock is stopped. In the beginning of the season putting us at the line was a huge advantage to our opponents but the Runners have completely flipped the script in the FT game. UTSA is currently sitting in the top 5 in FT % in CUSA. In our win against ODU, UTSA went 20-24 at the line.

Charlotte (10-14,3-8) is coming off a 73-68 loss to UTEP. Charlotte is strong on the glass pulling in an average 36 reb per game. They are also #1 in 3-pt % in CUSA hitting 37% of their shots from beyond the arc.
49ers leading performers are Torin Dorn #2 (12ppg) and Braxton Ogbueze (10ppg).

UTSA is 0-4 on Saturdays against conference opponents. Do we break that tomorrow? Hell yes. Go Runners!!

2016 DL Elijah Garcia

Elijah is a 6'5", 260 pound defensive lineman from Stevens HS in SA. Could play at either DT or strongside DE in college depending on how his body fills out. He's reported interest from several P5 programs and has taken unofficial visits to Baylor and UT. No offers yet. He's a little slow to the quarterback on the pass rush but I like the way he plays angles against the run.
