Just a quick run down on Coach Wilson's first class. Not gonna include the JUCO class Coker signed in December cuz I don't wanna depress anyone too much.
There were 4 HS players committed to the previous coaching staff that made signed.
Jesse Ebozue WR: December singee that ended up red shirting. Big time project at WR that didn't produce much in HS. WR depth is concerning after 2017 so we really need him to find a way into the rotation by 2018.
Jack Giblin WR/TE: A WR in HS he was move to TE once he got to UTSA. Will need to keep putting on weight before he'll see the field. Signing of a JUCO TE last week shows that staff is prepared to count on Giblin.
Jarron McLin DE: Carthage standout at both DE and TE didn't contribute much on defense, but caught 2 fake punt passes. By far the best player the last coaching staff had committed. Chance he sees some time in the DE/OLB rotation in 2017.
Carrington Kearney DB: A QB in HS out of Plugerville that was moved to DB as soon as he got to UTSA. Good athlete, but smaller than what it looks like Coach Wilson and Golding are currently targeting at DB.
Coach Wilson signed 3 JUCO players. 2 in February and 1 just before the fall practice
Marquez McNair WR: 3 star WR that we flipped from a Southern Miss comittment. Showed flashes of being a difference maker in the slot, but penalties and drops derailed his season. Has 2 more seasons to tighten up those things. Need him to step it up as the WR depth chart starts thinning with graduations.
Franklin Uesi DT/DE: Saw some sporadic playing time early in the season at DE when in a 3/4. Playing time faded as the season progressed though. Hard to see him being a big contributor if he couldn't beat out Napoles or Ben Kane.
Devron Davis CB: 3 star DB that signed just before Fall Practice after getting out of his Colorado St commitment. Took him a while to find his footing, but was probably our best DB the final quarter of the season. Someone I have penciled in as a starter in 2017.
Coach Frank Wilson and staff signed only 5 HS players in February. 1 (Jaquelle Green) liked to rob pizza delivery drivers and never made it to campus. 3 of the other 4 found themselves in the rotations early. All 3 committed on the same day 1/31/16. Gonna be a day we look back as a real win for the program.
Teddrick McGhee CB: Tall, Lanky CB out of Memphis that found himself starting at CB most of the season. Took some lumps but showed enough flashes of very good play to make me believe we have a 4 year starter on our hands. Once he gets stronger the sky is the limit for him.
Erik Banks OLB: McGhee's teammate was a QB most of the time in HS. Immediately made an OLB/DE by the staff Banks was a big part of the OLB rotation the last 10 games of the season. Flashing some big time athleticism he is a guy that can be a big time difference maker as he sees more time in Coach Filo's weight room.
Solomon Wise DE: Another late commitment that saw a ton of time on the field as a true freshman. Similar to Banks in that he needs to add a ton of muscle/weight before we'll see what he can really bring to the field. Big upside with Wise though.
Josh Oatis OT: The only lineman from the 2016 class redshirted the whole season. Not much info on how he progressed, but someone the staff was very high on after he committed.
