I'll try to keep this post a lot shorter than the long piece on the state's top 2018 tight ends that I posted on another site yesterday.
At that position, UTSA loses Shaq Williams after 2017, and probably Juco signee Robert Ursua after 2018. Jack Giblin will be a redshirt freshman this fall, and Chance McLeod and Michael Goff will be true freshmen. The staff will want to add at least one TE in the 2018 class, maybe two depending on how much they think Giblin, Goff, and McLeod will contribute in the future once they've had a season to work with them.
UTSA is reported to have offered seven TEs in the next class. They're not getting Mustapha Muhammad (the state's top player at the position), Reese Moore (who just committed to Texas as an OT), or Bralen Taylor (who has several P5 offers). I like local prospect Ben Sims (SA Clark) a lot as a receiver, not so much as a blocker, but he'd be a great get for the Roadrunners and could be a very good player for them in a few years. I also like Austria native Christoph Henle, who's nearly 6'6" 230 pounds and plays for The Oakridge School in Arlington. Henle has claimed a UTSA offer on Twitter but it hasn't been listed on his Rivals profile. I don't know enough to comment on the other two TEs who hold UTSA offers: Reed Tyler (Brandon, MS) and Jacob Warren (Knoxville, TN).
Having taken what I think is a pretty thorough look at what the state has to offer at the position in 2018, here are five guys who haven't been offered who I'd like to see UTSA evaluate and possibly pursue if they don't land Sims or a comparable talent and need someone to fill that spot in the class. I'll just post their videos now and add in some notes, observations, etc. later on.
Brayden Willis (Arlington Martin) - offers from Colorado State, Houston, and Texas State
6'4" 215
Tyrick James (China Spring) - offers from SMU and Texas State
6'2" 232
Jacob Kainer (Houston Cypress Woods)
6'4" 216, high school QB who I think plays TE at the next level
Jackson Lanam (Corpus Christi Calallen)
6'4" 215
Jay-Ton Franklin (San Antonio Saint Mary's Hall)
6'1" 218
