UTSA currently has two offensive line commits for the 2018 class in Spencer Burford-Watts (SA Wagner) and Terrell Haynes (Arlington Seguin). With four interior linemen set to exhaust their eligibility after the 2017 season, their number of OL signees in this class will surely be higher than 2.
An incoming senior to watch who has not been offered but has had some contact with the UTSA staff is Hunter Dooley of Graham. His Hudl profile puts his size at 6'4" 275, which is probably close to accurate. He's a very good left tackle for his Graham Steers team (which competes in Class 4A Division II) and I think is most likely a right tackle or guard if he plays at the FBS level.
In an article written before the start of the 2016 season, the Graham Leader quoted Graham's longtime offensive line coach as calling Dooley "probably the best lineman I've coached in 28 years on the job." In that article the coach also praised Dooley's agility and predicted, "When he grows up and gets some lower body strength, he'll be unbelievably good."
Dooley went on to earn first team all-district honors at offensive tackle, as well as a spot on the TSWA honorable mention all-state team. This past spring he showed his athleticism in track by winning the shot put at the 4A state track meet in May with a throw of 54'2.25". As a sophomore he never reached 50 feet in the shot put and only had one meet where he put the shot as far as 49 feet, but as a junior he improved so much that he topped 51 feet at every meet he entered and set a personal record with a 56'0.5" toss at his district meet.
So far Stephen F. Austin is his only D1 offer and he has not reported any FBS offers. UTSA OL coach Ryan Pugh and grad assistant Rishaw Johnson are among his followers on Twitter. Dooley attended this summer's Adidas 3-stripe Camp at UTSA and came away impressed with the coaches and facilities. He described Coach Pugh to me as "a great guy and a ton of fun to be around." He also added, "I love the school and everything about it", and said though the staff has never talked to him about an offer, he believes he's still on their board.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him pick up an offer later on this year. You can view his junior highlights below. Offer worthy?
