I've seen some promising-looking recruits on Hudl recently, ones who appear to me to be somewhere between borderline FBS athletes or future P5 contributors. As is often the case, I'm throwing their names out here to get board feedback on whether we think they're any good and whether they're of a caliber that UTSA should consider recruiting them. And if there's still coaching staff members who read the board, here are ones worth taking a look at and maybe monitoring this fall.

OL Jaylin Hendrix (Everman)
He's commonly listed at 6'4" and weighed 306 as recently as early March. He was a first team All-District 9-5A pick at offensive tackle for Everman, a south Fort Worth suburb. He has good size and is a very strong kid, benching 400 pounds with a top squat and dead lift of 550 during powerlifting season this winter, but I've read remarkably little about him. A Blue-Grey Combine write-up in April said he was hearing from Conference USA schools but didn't specify which ones. He plays left tackle now but I think he'll be a good guard for a D1 program somewhere. Hmm, can you think of any teams that are about to graduate 4 senior interior lineman? Oh wait!

These next three guys are all Missouri kids. I was looking up info on a particular recruit and ran across the list of 2016 Missouri All-State teams and found a few players I really liked from it.

ATH Caleb Marquez (Blue Springs, MO)
He's a jumbo athlete who plays all over the field for his team and who I think will end up at tight end in college. He was named to Missouri's Class 6 All-State 2nd team at running back, though he wasn't his team's primary ball-carrier for most of the season. I've seen him commonly listed at 6'3" and 225-235 pounds, though he tells me he's 6'4" 240. He comes from Blue Springs, an eastern suburb of Kansas City. Watch his Hudl and you'll see clips of him at RB, FB, TE, H-back, and WR. He made some contested catches at receiver, showed a bit of elusiveness with the ball in his hands, and had a blue collar attitude when it came to blocking for his teammates. He has claimed offers from South Dakota State and Western Illinois, visited Kansas and Iowa, and says Michigan and Memphis want him to come visit. He looks like a big and versatile weapon tailor-made to play TE/FB/H-back in a spread offense (or just about any offense for that matter), and I was surprised after watching his highlights to see he had no FBS offers yet. He also plays baseball and is keeping a busy summer schedule with his summer league team. He says he's primarily a catcher but also plays 3rd base.

OL Jalen Sundell (Maryville, MO)
He's from a small town in far northwest Missouri, about 100 miles north of Kansas City and a two-hour drive southeast of Omaha, Nebraska. He earned Class 3 1st team All-State honors on the O-line as a junior. I've seen him listed at 6'4"-6'5" and 250-260 or so pounds. Wish I knew how big he really is. He played both tackle spots and even caught a touchdown in 2016 (see the play at around the 1:00 mark). He doesn't have the prettiest footwork or technique but he really fires off the ball and attacks his target at the snap, and looks like he moves and bends really well for the position. He also plays basketball and is probably a kid who can put on a good amount of weight in college. Worth noting: his father was a basketball and track athlete at Northwest Missouri State and holds that school's high jump record (a pretty astounding 7'5"). His dad is also said to be about 6'8", so maybe Sundell still has an inch or two left to grow before he's done. He reported receiving his first D1 offer from Central Michigan yesterday, but says he's mostly hearing from FCS schools and has not been contacted by any schools in Texas. Offensive tackle depth is not strong in Texas for this class and Sundell might be a take for a school needing depth there as badly as UTSA has and does.

OL Ben Becker (Park Hill South - Kansas City, MO)
Listed at 6'5" 275, he played left tackle as a junior and made Class 5 2nd team all-state. He appears to bend well and plays with a definite mean streak. He may not be as well coached as some O-linemen coming from Texas football powerhouses but I don't think there's a huge gap in actual ability between him and, say, TCU offensive line commit Kris Dike (Van), who I like but I think his offer list has benefited from the state's relatively weak OT class. He has 5 offers so far from one service academy (Air Force) and 4 FCS teams (Central Arkansas, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois, and Missouri State), and has visited several FBS schools as well. He's more of a borderline FBS prospect but I think he may be in the mix for offers down the road from teams at that level, and could end up playing right tackle or guard in college.
