I'm procrastinating from finishing up a post I'm working on for another site, and I've got recruiting on my mind while also watching Game 6 of the World Series. Without over-writing and over-explaining these two players, I'll simply present two 2018 recruits I'm a fan of and get your reaction to them. I'm unsure of their potential fit with UTSA's roster but both can play for somebody.
The Juco OL is Tanner Elliott (Tyler JC), who has played primarily at the two guard spots but has also gotten at least a few snaps at center this season. He's a true freshman and a qualifier who should be able to sign with a four-year school this winter and have four years to play three. A year ago he was the starting left tackle on Carthage's 4A Division I state championship team and earned all-state honors. Not sure of his present size but in the spring of his junior year he measured 6'3" 275 at the ETSN combine and recorded a 32" vertical and 8'10" broad jump, which are both very good for an offensive lineman. His height likely ensures he's an interior lineman, but he's an athletic player for that position, and UTSA will have needs on the interior OL in 2018. A redshirt year would do him some good, but he's looked good in his snaps this fall at Tyler JC.
The high school defensive lineman I like is one Prince Boyd, Jr. (Hillhouse - New Haven, CT). He's a 6'1" 255 (listed size anyway) edge-rushing menace and tackling machine who made 115 tackles and 15 sacks and forced 6 fumbles as a junior, a season in which he helped lead his team to Connecticut's Class M state championship. As a senior he has 73 tackles and 16 sacks through seven games. Yeah, it's Connecticut, so he's just a few states outside of UTSA's normal recruiting map, but he makes some plays in his Hudl that jump off the screen and I think he's a take for somebody at some position on the DL. He doesn't have a profile that I've found on any of the major recruiting sites, and his Twitter account has all of 22 followers, so I have no idea if anyone is recruiting him. Somebody needs to though.
