After yesterday's practice the Roadrunners took a trip to Six Flags for some team bonding. It was a popular topic at media availability today. The Roadrunners also prepared for their next scrimmage on Saturday. Coach Wilson and Josiah Tauaefa spoke with media today. Here are some of the highlights.

Frank Wilson
  • It was a very productive day today. Went through game situations today. Put time on the clock and asked our staff and the players as well to be able to adjust. We put x amount of time on the clock and the offensive unit has to go down and score while the defense has to stop them. If it stopped or if they scored then the next unit of offense would come up and play as though they were the opposition and play the scenario through.
  • Today it was 28-21, white against the blue. White went down and tied the score up 28-28 with about a minute and something on the clock. Now you have a tie ballgame so the next unit has to go down and position themselves to try and be in field goal range. Both sides have to get into two minute drill. Defense held and so they prevailed.
  • Yesterday was a big day for us in the morning. We practiced four-minute drill, short yardage situation and goal-line in a scrimmage type fashion but no tackling to the ground.
  • In the evening we took a break off just for team camaraderie. Allowed the guys to take, a word we never use, to take a stroll down lazy river. So we allowed them to be lazy yesterday and just relax. Let the cold water hit your body. It was really fun. We enjoyed one another, came back had some smoothies and got ready for meetings in the late evening. Took about four hours away from weight lifting, film study, everything and just spent quality time with one another.
  • It seemed to energize guys. They were very appreciative of it. They made it known how much they thought about it. When you only work together and you don't do things outside of this building, it becomes very difficult to form a genuine relationship. Our team is able to go out and really enjoy one another, whether that is eating together, having fun together or working hard together. Those things are important to a team.
  • Coaches jumped in the water. Until people started taking pictures and then we had to put our shirts back on. I didn't want nobody seeing my belly. We got on a couple of water slides with the guys and really enjoyed it.
  • Sometimes you plan an outing and sometimes you know you need it because you read the body language of your team. They speak to you non-verbally. Their desire to want to be here, to want to compete is known but sometimes their body's tell you lets find some balance here. We probably need to ease off this evening and just enjoy one another and allow our bodies as well as our mental capacities to be refreshed.
  • Happy with where the team is. We start doing things that will happen in a game situation. At the end it was last play for the offense. To be able to put yourself in position on offense to make that play or on defense to knock it down, to understand prevent defense and the things we're trying to accomplish. Right now we're uncovering all the things that could happen from hands team to onside surprise to mayday field goal. We go through everything so there are no surprises. I like the track that we're on and we're right on line.
  • O-Line continues to improve. O-line and D-line continue to challenge each other back and forth. It will be good when we can turn our attention to Houston.
  • Ed Oliver is alright. He's a good player. Depending on where he lines up it will take all of us because they're going to try and put him in position to affect the game and we'll do our very best to hold on and allow us to be effective offensively.
  • First team offense is much improved in timing and chemistry. The summer was critical for those guys. They do things on their own. It has helped them tremendously.
