It's kind of an under the radar story in college sports but D-1 College Baseball has voted to switch balls for the 2015 postseason (although most conferences will adopt the new ball for conference play) The ball will be a low-seam ball very similar (besides the core) to the current Minor League ball currently being used. The seams are of a low profile but not as low as the ball being used by the MLB. Theoretically, the new ball should disrupt pitchers enough to spur on additional offense. Some pitchers will struggle with command because they will be unable to grip the ball by the seams on certain pitches. The goal, again, is to stimulate more action from the batter's perspective.
How do you think this affects UTSA? In my opinion, this only helps the Roadrunners who are returning a veteran pitching staff and who are fairly good on defense. Coach Marshall told me himself that this 2015 will be a defensive team. The biggest question mark I have coming in the season is how UTSA will be able to generate enough offense with so many key hitters gone?
