Hey Fellas.
After a long week off the Roadrunners (4-4) get back to business tomorrow evening against TCU. The Horned Frogs have been busy racking up wins and are currently undefeated (10-0) with a couple of notables against Miss St & Ole Miss. Kyan Anderson (Sr.) is running point for TCU and leads the team averaging 12.5 ppg with 4.5 in assists. He also leads the Big 12 in FT percentage hitting 94% of his shots at the line. As a team, TCU is shooting 48% from the field, 38% from outside and 62% from the line.
Our Runners are in for a grinding battle with a team that plays strong on defense. TCU is ranked 3rd in the Big 12 with, on average, only allowing 55.6 ppg. TCUs Chris Washburn will be at the rim ready to denying any ill advised shot attempts in the paint. He is second in the Big 12 with 18 blocks this season. If the Runners want any shot at the upset they're going to have be efficient offensively. Moving and taking care of the ball is going to be huge. Runners cannot let the ball stick on possessions. Control the tempo with perimeter passing and some in-and-outs to our bigs. When we can get dribble penetration and the shot is not there look for the gaps in the defense outside and kick it out. Our perimeter players are going to have to do their part and continuously work try to escape the pressure and find good looks. Making shots on the outside will not only keep us in the fight but also spread TCUs defense in hopes of getting quality looks inside. We'll need excellent point contributions from our entire team, which we're capable of.
With defense Runners MUST fight through those high screens. We've been giving teams way too much space outside. TCU is not a powerhouse in 3pt land but let's not help them find their game. Our defensive rotations need to be crisp. Protecting the paint with help defense is another aspect of our game that needs to continue to improve. Look for TCU to attack inside often. In order for Kaj to avoid early foul trouble our guys should help with the weak side or collapse when their is a one-on-one situation inside. Kaj lacks the lateral speed and hops to get quality shot contests against quicker opponents inside.
I'm hoping for a hard fought game tomorrow. Hopefully we'll come out guns blazing hitting 3s, dunking on dudes, forcing 20+ turnovers....but probably not. If anything, the Runners should use this game as a tool to help prep for some of our high caliber CUSA opponents.
