SAN ANTONIO — UTSA seniors Spencer Burford and Tariq Woolen have receive invitations to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, which will be held March 1-7 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Burford and Woolen now are in line to become the first Roadrunners to take part in the NFL Scouting Combine since Marcus Davenport in 2018 before he was selected 14th overall by the New Orleans Saints later that year. David Morgan II was the first UTSA player to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in 2016 prior to becoming the program’s first-ever NFL Draft pick when he was taken in the sixth round by the Minnesota Vikings.

More information, including television coverage, will be available soon at https://www.nfl.com/network/events/nfl-combine. The 2022 NFL Draft is slated for April 28-30 in Las Vegas.

Burford started 12 games on the offensive line — 11 at left tackle — to help lead UTSA to a 12-2 record, the Conference USA title and the program’s second straight and third overall bowl game appearance in 2021. An honorable mention All-American by Phil Steele and first-team all-conference pick, he helped pave the way for an offense that set school records for total yards (6,146), total yards per game (439.0), passing yards (3,577), passing yards per game (255.5), points scored (516) and points per game (36.9). According to Pro Football Focus, the San Antonio Wagner High School product allowed only two sacks and one hit on the quarterback in 420 pass-blocking snaps.

Woolen made starts at cornerback in all nine games in which he was available this season. The Fort Worth native registered 25 total tackles, 17 solo stops, 2.5 tackles for loss, five pass breakups, one interception and a quarterback hurry. The honorable mention all-conference performer helped lead a defense that forced 25 turnovers (10th/FBS) and yielded only 114.7 rushing yards per game (14th/FBS). A former wide receiver who made the position switch late in the 2019 campaign, he landed at No. 6 out of 101 players on Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List after posting testing numbers that included 11 feet, five inches in the broad jump and a time of 4.34 seconds in the 40-yard dash in which he hit 23.33 miles per hour.

Burford and Woolen both are scheduled to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, which is scheduled for Feb. 5 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game will be televised live on NFL Network at 1:30 p.m.
