SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos has announced the addition of a pair of veteran athletics administrators and a restructuring of the executive staff.

Joining the executive staff are Maria Ochoa-Woods as senior associate athletics director of administration and Shanda Hayden as senior associate athletics director of academics.

“We are thrilled to announce two new additions to our executive staff,” Campos said. “Maria Ochoa-Woods’ hire gives us a polished, veteran administrator whose diverse experience allows her to impact our entire intercollegiate athletics program. Shanda Hayden will be able to step right into the academic leadership role and have a positive impact on our student-athletes. Both these hires will contribute significantly to the vision of developing students academically, athletically and in life.”

Woods joins the Roadrunners as a decorated athletics administrator. She most recently was the senior associate athletics director (2012-18) and executive senior associate athletics director (2018-20) at Illinois, where she also served as senior woman administrator (SWA).

Hayden joins the staff after serving as the assistant athletics director for academics and career counseling at Kansas from 2007 to 2021. She previously was the director of student recruitment and an academic adviser for the Kansas School of Business before entering athletics administration.

Campos also announced several new titles as part of the executive staff restructuring.

UTSA has promoted Mike Bazemore to deputy athletics director for finance and strategic initiatives. He served as UTSA’s executive senior associate athletics director for finance and strategic initiatives since 2018 after joining the Roadrunners from San Jose State, where he was assistant athletics director for business, facilities and events. He also was the chief financial officer at UC Davis (2009-17), in addition to time in the senior administration at Nevada (2006-09), UCF (2001-06) and Jacksonville (1993-2001).

Steve Lautz will serve as senior associate athletics director for compliance after serving as UTSA’s associate athletics director for compliance since 2019. He came to San Antonio after spending more than a decade as the associate athletics director for compliance at Auburn. He also gained experience as the assistant athletics director for compliance at Wisconsin-Milwaukee and served as an attorney in Overland Park, Kan., representing colleges and universities in matters of NCAA compliance.

Darren D’Attilio has moved from Assistant Vice President for Athletics Resource Development into a role as Assistant Vice President for Revenue Generation & External Operations. A fixture in UTSA’s growth since arriving on campus in July of 2018, he previously served as the senior associate athletics director for external relations and development at Northern Arizona. He also worked in development and external relations at UTEP and Cal State Bakersfield. A national search is underway to hire a Senior Executive Director of Development for Athletics, who will serve as the department’s chief development officer.

“I’m grateful for Mike Bazemore, Steve Lautz and Darren D’Attilio for their unyielding support in our mission of providing a top-notch student-athlete experience at UTSA,” Campos said. “They each bring tremendous skills and positive personalities to their individual roles and are always focused on how we can improve each day. The executive staff that we have formed here at UTSA is dedicated to our values of excellence, integrity and unity and is committed to developing champions in the classroom, in competition and in life.”
