INDIANAPOLIS — UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Lisa Campos has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Council for 2018-19, as announced by the NCAA Office. Campos will serve a four-year term on the committee beginning July 1, 2018.

“I am honored to be named to the Council and extremely proud to have the opportunity to represent Conference USA,” Campos said. “I look forward to working alongside respected leaders in the industry who are shaping college athletics and the student-athlete experience.”

The Division I Council is a high-level group responsible for the day-to-day decision-making for Division I. Athletics directors, athletics administrators, senior women administrators, faculty athletics representatives and student-athletes serve on the Council. Every Division I conference is represented on the Council, which replaces the Leadership and Legislative Councils in the previous structure.

The Division I Council is responsible for the following standing committees, who report directly to the Council: Student-Athlete Experience Committee, Strategic Video and Planning Committee, Legislative Committee, Competition Oversight Committee, Men's Basketball Oversight Committee, Football Oversight Committee, Women's Basketball Oversight Committee and Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Hired on Nov. 17, 2017, Campos is in her first year leading the UTSA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. She came to the Alamo City following a five-year tenure as Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at Northern Arizona University (NAU).

During her time in Flagstaff, the Lumberjackscaptured 34 Big Sky and Western Athletic Conference championships and 11 teams advanced to NCAA postseason competition. The men’s cross country team captured the school’s first NCAA Division I Championship in 2016 and repeated as national champions in 2017.

Under her leadership, NAU collected two Big Sky Conference Presidents’ Cup trophies for overall excellence in competition and in the classroom. The Lumberjacks’ athletic achievements led to the men’s programs winning the Big Sky All-Sports Trophy four consecutive times from 2014-17. The women’s teams captured the trophy in 2014 and 2017.

Prior to her time at NAU, Campos served as Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of Texas at El Paso from 2006-12. During her tenure at UTEP, she cultivated several significant gifts to the program and oversaw a multi-million-dollar budget, among her many responsibilities.

Named to the Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 in 2017, Campos also has served on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee.

A native of Las Animas, Colo., Campos earned both her bachelor’s degree in business administration and her master’s degree in student affairs in higher education from Colorado State. She holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from UTEP.
