SAN ANTONIO – After collecting a three-homer game in Friday's rout of Rice, UTSA baseball junior outfielder Chase Keng was named national player of the week by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, it was announced on Monday.

Keng, a native of Deer Park, Texas, hit .533 (8 of 15) during a historic week, owning a 1.200 slugging and a .563 on-base percentage. He reached base safely in 9 of 16 trips to the plate and finished with nine RBI, three homers and a double.

Keng belted three homers in the series opener, driving in five runs in a 4-for-4 game, marking the fifth player in program history to hit three homers in a single game and the first since 2011. He followed up the 4-for-4 game with a two-hit, three-RBI outing in the second game of the series, ripping a double.

Keng had two hits and an RBI in the doubleheader finale on Saturday, a 4-1 UTSA win.

In seven games in 2021, has hit .417 (10-for-24) with a double, three homers and 10 RBI. The series win at Rice marked UTSA's second straight series win over the Owls – the first two in program history – with UTSA winning six of the last eight meetings, the best stretch vs. Rice in program history.

UTSA will open its home league schedule with Southern Miss on Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. on CUSA TV.
