I caught up with Jalil Clemons, the out of state defensive lineman from Starkville. Jalil told me that he’s mainly been hearing from Memphis and WKU, and that Coach Turner is the coach that he’s mainly been in contact with when it comes to UTSA. We talked about his relationship with Coach Turner, and Clemons said, “Me and Coach Turner are real cool, I tried setting up a visit this weekend because I was in Dallas, but he wasn’t around, so that didn’t happen.” It seems clear that Jalil really wants to try and make it out to UTSA sometime soon.
When asked about what he thinks of Coach Frank Wilson, he told me, “I think Coach Wilson is pretty good at what he does. I also think that UTSA is a pretty good school to be able to get a shot at the NFL and graduate. Jalil told me something pretty interesting, saying, “I talk to Lorenzo Dantzler (a defensive end for UTSA from Starkville) and he tells me that it’s a good school and that it’s lit in Texas.” Having a player from his school already on UTSA’s team could really help the Roadrunners in this recruitment.
Jalil told me that he’s wanting to take all of his official visits when the season starts for him. When it comes to what he looks for in a school to commit to, Jalil says, “I plan on going to a school who shows me the most love and feels like family, and a school that fits me.” UTSA is really going to have to show him some love if they want to come out on top in this recruitment. So, what sets Clemons apart from other players at his position? “My competitive edge sets me apart from everyone, don’t nobody want it as bad as me!!”
