Remember him? The former Leander safety was UTSA's first commit in the 2014 class (not to be confused with one-time commit Anthoula Kelly, the Galena Park DB who later flipped to Fresno State). I'd all but forgotten about him until I saw a news story about him today and then noticed he was trending in my Twitter feed. There have been some recent developments in the criminal case that ended with him being sentenced to a long jail term three years ago.

For those who don't remember, Kelley was a talented athlete who didn't have a great home situation, and late in his high school career he lived with a friend whose mother ran a daycare out of the home. In August of 2013 he was accused of sexually assaulting two four-year-old boys who spent time at the daycare. One of the boys later recanted his accusation against Kelley. In July of 2014 a jury found him guilty of "super aggravated sexual assault of a child" and he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

KVUE has a helpful timeline of events in the case. He maintained his innocence throughout the process, and the woman who ran the daycare at the house he was living in believed he was innocent of the charges as well.

Kelley's motions for a new trial and subsequent appeals were denied. Flash forward to May of this year, and his case is reopened after authorities receive new evidence that indicate that the victim might have actually been assaulted by Kelley's friend, the son of the woman who ran the in-home daycare where the attack was alleged to have taken place.

A hearing in Williamson County court is being held today on the matter. Austin American-Statesman reporter Andrea Ball's Twitter feed is currently giving a good rundown of those proceedings.

Not a feel-good story, by any means, but considering he was once committed to the Roadrunners I thought some might have interest in what has since happened with his case.
