• UTSA dropped its first season opener in its five-year history with the 42-32 loss to No. 22 Arizona tonightin Tucson.
• Tonight marked UTSA’s fourth consecutive season opener on the road. The only time the Roadrunners have hosted a season lid-lifter was the inaugural game on Sept. 3, 2011, a 31-3 victory against Northeastern State. UTSA will kick off the 2016 campaign on Sept. 3 at the Alamodome against Alabama State.
• Arizona improved to 3-0 all-time against the Roadrunners. The Wildcats escaped San Antonio with a 26-23 victory last September and posted a 38-13 triumph two years ago in Tucson.
• No. 22 Arizona was the fourth ranked opponent the Roadrunners have faced in their short history. UTSA has lost its previous three meetings with nationally-ranked foes No. 13 Oklahoma State in 2013 (56-35), No. 22 Louisiana Tech in 2012 (51-27) and No. 16 Football Championship Subdivision member Sam Houston State in 2011 (22-7).
• Tonight also marked the fourth non-Saturday game in program history, all of which occured in the last two seasons. Last year, UTSA beat Houston, 27-7, on a Friday night and played a pair of games on a Thursday, a 12-10 victory against Southern Miss and a 26-23 setback to Arizona.
• Tonight was the first of four non-conference games against teams — Arizona, Colorado State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State — that combined for 36 wins all appeared in bowl games last year.
• UTSA established a new school record for total yards with 525 (193 rush/332 pass) and total plays with 95.
• Redshirt freshman QB Blake Bogenschutz broke UTSA’s single-game school record for passing yards with a game-high 332 on 25-of-43 passing. The Carthage native added 31 yards on the ground to eclipse the school’s single-game standard for total yards with 363.
• Senior TE David Morgan II finished with game highs of 109 yards receiving on nine catches, which set a program record for receptions, including his fourth career touchdown catch. UTSA’s last 100-yard receiving game was by Cole Hubble, who hauled in three passes for 101 yards and pair of scores against No. 22 Louisiana Tech on Nov. 3, 2012.
• Sophomore WR Kerry Thomas Jr. finished with six catches for 80 yards, which nearly equaled his output from the 2014 season (five catches, 81 yards).
• Junior RB Jarveon Williams had 79 yards on a career-best 21 carries.
• Sophomore WR Aron Taylor turned his first career reception into a 32-yard touchdown late in the third quarter.
• Sophomore LB Marcos Curry registered a career-high eight tackles, including seven solo stops.
• Nine Roadrunners made their first career starts tonight: OT Reed Darragh, OG Kyle McKinney, C Austin Pratt, WR Kerry Thomas Jr. and RB Jarveon Williams on offense and DE Marcus Davenport, S Nate Gaines, CB Aneas Henricks and DT Jonathan Tuiolosega on defense.
• Twenty-two newcomers made their UTSA debut tonight, including 11 freshmen (6 true/5 redshirt).
• Sophomore PK Daniel Portillo drilled his first career field goal from 19 yards out at the 12:39 mark of the second quarter. The Pflugerville Connally HS product added a 33-yarder later in the second stanza and had five touchbacks on his seven kickoffs.
