Henson inks Italian point guard Erik Czumbel

UTSA men's basketball has signed Italian point guard Erik Czumbel for the 2019-20 season, it was announced by head coach Steve Henson on Tuesday afternoon.

"We are excited about adding Erik to this already very talented 2019 class," Henson said. "Erik is a true point guard that will bring leadership, maturity and a high basketball IQ to the court. Our program will benefit from his extensive international experience and his season competing at the A2 level in the Italian Basketball League."

A 6-foot-2 native of Verona, Italy, Czumbel concludes the 2019-20 roster for the Roadrunners, who have added five incoming talents.

In the FIBA U-18 European Championships, Czumbel averaged 8.3 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds, over 23.5 minutes per game. He was 6 of 10 from 3-point range, 24 of 27 from the charity stripe and 14 of 30 from the field in the seven-game event. He had a 17-point outing in 19 minutes vs. Turkey, including drilling a trio of 3-pointers.

Czumbel played club for the 2B Control Trapani, coming off the bench as a reserve guard in 2018-19 in the Legadue Gold. He averaged 12.6 minutes and 2.4 points per game for 2B Control Trapani.
