Sam Houston State QB Jared Johnson is transferring to UTSA. He is eligible immediately. He was the Southland Conference Player of the Week in 2015 and completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 2,216 yards and 18 touchdowns to just two interceptions in 14 games. He added 470 yards and five touchdowns as a rusher. Johnson accumulated over 4,000 yards as a sophomore.

Despite that success, Johnson was benched in the last two regular season games and didn't start in the playoffs. It was a weird ending to a great season and career as a Bearcat. Willie Fritz, now Tulane's head coach, recruited Johnson before leaving the program in 2013.

This is big news for UTSA. The Roadrunners need a quarterback with former walk-on Dalton Sturm and two redshirt freshmen battling it out in the spring.
