Javi and I stopped by UTSA campus to grab a few attendees of the junior day. We interviewed a few after. Here is the gist.
Frank Harris- QB - Clemens
The Golden Goose at UTSA's first junior day under the new staff was probably quarterback Frank Harris. He's the best QB in the city not named Xavier Martin and he's a player the Roadrunners are going all-in for. He was one of the attendees at junior day, spending a lot of time with head coach Frank Wilson and his staff.
"It was really good," Harris said of the visit. "Me, my parents and grandma enjoyed it. Coach Wilson took time out with us and had a meeting with us just talking about his school and things like that."
A big question for Harris is future position. He's been offered by a few G5 schools as a quarterback, but Baylor recently jumped in the fray with an offer to him as a defensive back. The word around Clemens is that Harris was excited about the offer, but wasn't that interested. He confirmed that, sort of, after junior day.
"I want to play quarterback. UTSA is selling the local school that I can play quarterback. There's a lot to like there."
Bryce Rivers - QB - Stevens
Rivers still doesn't have an offer, but the new coaching staff is in the hunt. "They say they're very interested in me and I've been hearing from them for about a month. My coaching staff at Stevens tells me they're really looking at me. Getting an invite to this junior day showed a lot."
Rivers said the staff gave a tour of campus, talked about the requirements for playing at UTSA, as a school and a staff, and had 1-on-1 meetings with position coaches.
"It was great. There was a lot of talented guys here. I knew a few of them from around town. This staff is really aggressive and I think things are in great shape. It was a really exciting day and a great visit."
Darren Thomas - DT - Judson
The big man looked the part outside of UTSA campus. He's very interested in UTSA and came away very impressed. He and his dad were on the visit.
"The energy is different. I came around here when I was a freshman and the vibe was totally different. This new staff is going to go in the right direction and it won't take very long. I was very impressed with everything I saw and it is a potential landing spot for me. I like that it is local."
Thomas is concentrating on becoming a better all-around athlete throughout the spring and summer and I expect him to be a guy UTSA pays close attention to throughout his senior cycle.
Titus Wall - OLB - Plano West
I didn't know a ton about the Plano West linebacker, but he was invited on campus. That means the staff is interested. I'll need to go watch film on him before commenting on him as a player. He says he's an outside linebacker. He'll need to pack on some bulk to his frame.
"My brother went to UTSA a few years ago, so I knew some stuff about it. It's a great campus and this was a great visit. I could see myself here for four years if I was offered. I think of myself as an athletic linebacker who is physical. I hope to hear more from the school and I think I will after today. It was a great visit. I really feel comfortable with this coaching staff."
Ashton Smith - OLB/S - Stevens
Smith was an imposing figure for a guy who is being recruited as a hybrid linebacker/safety position. He didn't know details of defense, but he was told they see him playing a blend of those spots.
"I've only heard from UTSA wants the new staff got here. You can tell they want to recruit the area. There were a lot of us (San Antonio) guys here. I know most of them from outside of football and stuff. It was great. I'm originally from Louisiana, so I get along great with these guys. There's a familiarity or something with the staff."
Josh Croslen - DT - Steele
You can see why UTSA is after Croslen. He looks like D1 defensive tackle. He told me this was his first time interacting with anyone from UTSA. This was actually his first time being on campus.
"It went great. The coaches were great. They talked about academics and how we can graduate from UTSA. I was very impressed."
Croslen was offered in Tuesday.
Langston Frederik - CB - Clear Springs
Langston is another prospect that visited UTSA for the first time. He came away very impressed with the coaches and the university. UTSA is his first D1 offer. It is still early in the recruiting process for him, but it seems like UTSA made an impression on him.
