I've said it before and I'll say it again until it happens - She deserves a statue for what she has done at UTSA. And the best part is, she's not done. Here is an excerpt from today's AD Newsletter for those who did not see it, come on FOOTBALL GODS!!!!!
It is amazing to me that a six-year-old football program will be playing on a stage like the one they will take this Saturday at Texas A&M. It will be a great experience for both our fans and the team. Coach Wilson and his staff have experience in a venue with a large crowd like the one we will see at Kyle Field. They will have the team ready to compete. This is a great opportunity for our program and once again, this team is writing another page in our history book with its first game against a team from the SEC, which also happens to be one of the storied college programs in the state of Texas.
I have been getting media calls this week due to my 15-year tenure at A&M. Reporters have asked me what it will be like to step into the stadium as a representative of UTSA. In reflecting on those questions I have a lot of memories. My last day at A&M was at a home football game against Tulsa. I was receiving a plaque that day for my years of service prior to me departing for UTSA. As we were standing at midfield, the president of the university pointed to the Tulsa bench and he predicted that someday I would be the AD at a school like Tulsa. Little did he or I understand that when I arrived in San Antonio later that day that I was getting an opportunity to do something much greater than his prediction. The odds are against us this Saturday, but our Roadrunners will be prepared and they will compete to the best of their ability. I am so proud of Coach Wilson and our team, and I will be wearing my Orange and Blue while holding my head up high as our team runs out onto the field. Who knows what the “football gods” will have in store for us in this historic game?
