DALLAS — UTSA’s Sincere McCormick has added another honor to his collection, as the sophomore running back has earned a spot on the 2020 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America Second Team presented in partnership with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.

McCormick is the second Roadrunner to collect All-America accolades this season, as sophomore punter Lucas Dean was named a second-team All-American by the Sporting News on Dec. 29. This marks the first time two UTSA players garnered All-America accolades in the same year and the duo joins David Morgan II — a USA TODAY second-team selection and SI.comhonorable mention performer at tight end in 2015 — as the only three All-Americans in the 10-year history of the program.

A finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, McCormick finished his second campaign as a Roadrunner with 1,467 yards and 11 touchdowns on 249 rushes, all school records. The Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, who leads all FBS players in rushing yards as of Dec. 29, also set the UTSA single-season mark with 133.4 rushing yards per game. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry and also caught 20 passes for 131 yards this fall.

The Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Texas College Player of the Year and first-team all-conference performer logged a league-best seven 100-yard rushing games, including five where he topped 150 yards, and he registered the top two and five of the top 10 rushing games in C-USA in 2020. He registered 34 runs of 10-plus yards, including 17 of 20-plus and four of 50-plus yards.

A four-time C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, the Doak Walker Award semifinalist was named Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week after racking up 165 yards and three TDs on a school-record 37 carries in the win over Louisiana Tech. The 2019 FWAA Freshman All-American and C-USA Freshman of the Year twice this season broke his own school record for rushing yards in a game, including 251 yards in the 49-17 victory over North Texas on Nov. 28.

McCormick became UTSA’s career rushing yardage leader after posting 122 yards on 23 totes against No. 16 Louisiana in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on Dec. 26 for his school-record 10th career 100-yard performance. The Converse Judson High School product has racked up 2,450 yards and 19 touchdowns — one short of David Glasco’s program standard — on 426 attempts in only 23 career contests. He surpassed fellow Judson Rockets alum Jarveon Williams’ previous rushing record of 2,393 yards, and he currently owns UTSA’s career rushing yards per carry (5.8) and game (106.5) marks.

The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic is presenting the All-America Team as part of what has been a season-long campaign to promote the 76-year history of this prestigious honor. Each All-American will receive a commemorative football and the first-team selections will be presented with a custom All-America watch.

"Serving in the role of presenting sponsor of the FWAA's prestigious All-America team is the perfect for the both of us," said Bry Patton, the chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association and Cotton Bowl Foundation. "The Goodyear Cotton Bowl and the nation's writers and broadcasters have shared a lot of special moments over eight decades. We are proud of this relationship and look forward to doing our part in promoting these deserving student-athletes."

Since 1945, the FWAA team has been among the five used in the NCAA's selection of an annual consensus All-America team in college football. Since the 2002 season, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), The Associated Press, The Sporting News and the Walter Camp Football Foundation have joined the FWAA as the five designated selectors by the NCAA.

The combined 54-man teams represent 39 schools from all 10 FBS conferences plus one independent and hail from half the country – their hometowns are in 26 states led by nine from Texas, eight from Florida and six from California. It is heavily-laden with seniors, who occupy almost half (23) the spots, followed by 19 juniors and 12 sophomores. There are no freshmen on the combined team.

The FWAA's All-America Committee selected this 77th annual team based on nominations from the entire membership. This is just the eighth season in the modern era (post-1950) that the FWAA has named a second team. The FWAA also selected an all-purpose player for a fourth consecutive year, which made for a 54-man full team.
