LEWISVILLE, Texas — The honors continue to pour in for UTSA’s Sincere McCormick, as the sophomore running back has been named Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Texas College Player of the Year, the magazine announced Wednesday.

McCormick was chosen as the overall top collegiate player among the state’s 12 FBS programs and he joins Offensive Player of the Year Jaelon Darden of North Texas and Defensive Player of the Year Buddy Johnson of Texas A&M on the publication’s list of Texas College award winners. He is the first Roadrunner to receive one of the magazine’s player of the year honors.

“This is a tremendous honor for Sincere, but the first thing he will tell you is that this is a credit to our entire offensive unit and coaching staff,” head coach Jeff Traylor said. “He is just a humble young man from right here in the San Antonio area who works hard every day to get better, and that shows in all that he has been able to accomplish this season. He is a great example of what our #210TriangleOfToughness brand is all about.”

This honor comes less than one hour after the Converse Judson High School product was announced as UTSA’s first-ever finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Earlier this week, McCormick was tabbed Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference in a vote by the league’s head coaches. He also was named to the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football All-Texas College First Team.

McCormick leads C-USA and ranks second in the FBS with a UTSA-record 1,345 rushing yards to go along with a program-record 11 rushing touchdowns in 10 games this season. He owns six 100-yard rushing games, including five where he topped 150 yards, and he has registered the top two and five of the top 10 rushing games in C-USA this season.

A four-time C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, the Doak Walker Award semifinalist was named Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week after racking up 165 yards and three TDs on a school-record 37 carries in the win over Louisiana Tech. The 2019 Freshman All-American and C-USA Freshman of the Year has twice this season broken his own school record for rushing yards in a game, including 251 yards in the 49-17 victory over North Texas in his last outing. He has broken loose for 31 runs of 10-plus yards, including 16 of 20-plus and four of 50-plus yards.

The Roadrunners will make their second bowl game appearance this Saturday, Dec. 26, when they face No. 16 Louisiana in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas and the game will be televised nationally on ABC and ESPN Deportes.
