Coach discussed a lot of topics on Monday at the weekly roundtable. Here is what he had to say on the last game and the next game.

Frank Wilson
  • Celebrated birthday yesterday. (FIU) film didn't spoil my birthday. I got a chance to see it live so I knew what to expect unfortunately. The good was the defense. We limited a team that had been scoring 30-40 points a game to 14. Were it not for a costly turnover by the special teams unit they might have only had seven.
  • It was a tale of two halves. First half we were sleepwalking or sluggish. Second half we woke up and started to do some things well.
  • In the first 25 plays Dalton got hit eight times, sacked three times. They had blitzed 40 times on the year before Saturday. They blitzed us 20 times in one game. That's an area we have to improve on. We didn't protect the quarterback very well and its not just an offensive line problem. We have to continue to take responsibility for those things. We were able to point those things out in practice yesterday to make sure that it doesn't occur (again).
  • You have to find a way to get into the end zone. You have to want it more than your opponent. At the one yard line it has nothing to do with schemes. Your will has to be greater. It's man on man for a yard and who will win that matchup. We did not on Saturday in that position.
  • There have been games, we went to A&M a year ago and I thought we played our very best and our best wasn't good enough. You can accept that. I thought we competed very hard in the bowl game and our best wasn't good enough. I don't think we played our best Saturday. The effort was there. The execution was missing. It's difficult when you don't play to the best of your ability. I tell them this, all we ask is all that you have and if your best isn't good enough we can accept that but when we play not to the best of our ability then thats discouraging because we had opportunities.
  • Finishing second should always bring discomfort. It brings accountability. Then the realization of you have worthy opponent about to come to the Alamodome and they won't have empathy for you so you have to be ready to play. Lets take ownership of this and lets let our scars show and move forward.
  • I like Bill Clark, he's a great guy. Les Koenning, his offensive coordinator does a great job. They're efficient in the things they do offensively. Their QB has 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions with 10 rushing touchdowns. They play within themselves and have given themselves every opportunity. They don't beat themselves. They don't turn the ball over. They do things that give them advantages.
  • To the fans who are disappointed and who have an expectation they should know that our expectation is even greater and our disappointment is as such. We hurt. We hold standards. We hold expectations. We make preparations and when it doesn't come to fruition we deal with it we answer. They have a right to be disappointed. The fans they come and they support us. We're in it with them. They're not alone in their disappointment. We feel the pain and our intent is to do better week in and week out.
  • We don't play differently. We continue to try to improve each week and work diligently to win the remaining games, the bowl game and finish 9-3. It just may happen but we can't get there until we win six. We'll see where it ends.
  • The added motivation is to have a win. We want to win in the worst way. Bowl implication or not we need a win at home against a quality team.
