Anchoring the middle of any defensive line is never easy. It takes hard work. For the Roadrunners' Kevin Strong it is just part of the job as defensive tackle.
The sophomore from Cleveland, Texas is one of the players fighting for the defensive tackle position this spring on the practice fields at UTSA.
"I'm a kid that wants to work," Strong said. "My dream is to make it to the league but before that I want to help my team win.
Strong has entered spring at 285 lbs. While he was at Cleveland he tallied 116 tackles, 13 tackle-for-loss and 15 sacks in his final two seasons as a member of the Indians football team.
He has been one of the hardest working players on the defensive line in spring but he still has room to grow.
"We have to keep working with him on his endurance because we will ask him to take a lot of snaps," Head Coach Frank Wilson said. "He’s worked extremely hard on conditioning himself."
Strong has also made himself feel right at home in the Alamo City. There was no culture shock for the kid from the town an hour north of Houston on Highway 59.
"I like that it is bigger here in San Antonio than Cleveland, there is more to do," Strong said. "I miss the home cooked meals and being around my family. But this is my second home."
