I caught up with Malik Sanders, the DB out of Northwest Mississippi C.C., about his recruitment. Malik told me that he’s really been enjoying the process and that he has really just been taking in all of his options and taking his recruitment slowly. Sanders says that the main schools he hears from are Mississippi State, University of Southern Miss, SMU and UTSA. These schools call and text him just about every day according to Malik. Coach Wilson, the DB coach, is the main UTSA coach that has been in contact with him.
When it comes to his opinions of Coach Frank Wilson, Malik says, “I think Frank Wilson is a great coach and is going to lead UTSA in the right direction.” We also talked about his overall thoughts of UTSA, he spoke highly of the university saying, “I honestly think it’s a great school. I haven’t visited yet, but I can’t wait. UTSA also is a great fit for my major.” Malik is going to major in business, and he feels UTSA would be a great fit for him academically.
Malik looks “for a school that can be a home away from home. Also, a school that will definitely help me academically. I want to come into a program that I can come in and make an early impact and fit well.” We also talked about what sets him apart from other players at his position, and Sanders said, “I think my technique is the best there is… I put in a lot of time doing the basics over and over, that’s what separates me from other DB’s.” That work ethic with the basics will really help him set himself apart once he gets to his future program. “I’m not the fastest, but I’ll never get beat.” This is just a testament as to how confident he is in his technique.
