I had the pleasure of catching up with the Murphy brothers (Gabriel and Grayson) about them and their recruitment. There are many aspects about the two brothers that are similar, including their height, 6’2”, their weight, 215 pounds, and their position, linebacker. The two linebackers from Bishop Lynch both told me that their recruitment has been going well so far and that they have mainly been hearing from schools such as Uconn, Minnesota, Baylor, UTSA, and Texas Tech. Grayson also says that “there’s been a lot [of coaches] by the school checking us out.”

When asked about which coaches from UTSA they hear from the most, Gabriel told me “I hear from the new linebacker coach the most…Coach Camp.” Grayson also agreed in saying that he hears from Coach Camp the most as well. When asked about their opinions of Coach Frank Wilson, first Gabriel said “I think Coach Wilson is a great fit for the program”, Grayson went on to add “I don’t know much about Coach Wilson. Can’t wait to meet him, heard a lot of great things about him.” We went on to talk about what they thought of UTSA, with Grayson saying “UTSA is all around a great program.” We talked about what they look for in a program, Gabriel told me “I’m looking for good academics, good football program and if it’s driving distance from home.”

When it comes to if one of the brother’s college decision will affect the other’s decision, Gabriel simply answered “Me and my brother are real close since day 1… We’re a package deal.” Grayson also agreed that they’re a “package deal.” I decided to ask them what exactly sets them apart from other players at their position, and they both answered very similarly and very confidently with Gabriel speaking for both of them saying “Me and my brother are the best at our position point, blank, period. We’re going to outwork anybody that steps in our way.” Like I said, Grayson similarly answered by saying “I’m the best in my position, no doubt about it.” You can’t help but respect their confidence, and like they say, confidence is key. They are both really hoping to make it out to UTSA’s junior day, but were unable to confirm for sure if they’d be there. Gabriel told me that if he did make it out to junior day, that he would be most excited about meeting Coach Frank Wilson. Whichever school does end up getting this dynamic linebacker package, is definitely getting two really good and really confident players.
