I had the chance to catch up with Melvin McBride, the Whitehaven offensive lineman. Melvin told me that his recruitment has been going very well and that things are really just starting to take off for him. He also went on to tell me that he mainly hears from school like Memphis, Louisville, Purdue and South Carolina. I asked if he hears from UTSA, and he said, “Yeah, I just started hearing from them a lot since they offered not so long ago.” He said he mainly hears from Coach Sands.

Melvin talked about how he and Coach Sands have a good relationship with each other. When I asked about his thoughts on Coach Frank Wilson, he said that he hasn’t heard from him yet, but he thinks he’s a good coach. We also went on to talk about what he think of UTSA, and Melvin said, “I like the school as a whole, both on and off the field.”

We continued by talking about what sets him apart from other players at his position, and he told me that he’s very athletic for his size. Melvin’s athleticism at his size is definitely one of the reasons the staff is taking a hard look at him. So what exactly does Melvin McBride look for in a school to commit to? “A school with great academics and a caring coaching staff.” Melvin does not currently have a top list of schools he can share with us.
