I had to opportunity to catch up with Chico Bennett, the talented wide receiver out of Battle Ground Academy in Tennessee. Chico told me that the whole process has really been a blessing for him thus far. He didn’t share the schools he hears from with me, but he did tell me that he mainly hears from Coach Thomas when it comes to UTSA.
I asked about what he thought of Coach Frank Wilson, but he told me that he really doesn’t know about Coach Wilson, so he couldn’t answer. It seems like he’d like to get to know Coach Frank Wilson though. Chico told me about his relationship with Coach Thomas, saying, “I feel like I have a good relationship with Coach Thomas, especially with the fact that his father performed my surgery.” This is a big coincidence, and it could possibly end up helping UTSA in his recruitment since he already has that connection with Coach Thomas.
We talked about what Chico looks for in a school to commit to, and he told me, “I look for a school that I feel comfortable with when I walk onto campus and walk around. The culture and environment is what I look for.” UTSA just so happens to have a great culture and environment, so that bodes well for the Roadrunners. When asked about what sets him apart from other players at his position, Chico said, “I feel that my attitude and mindset on and off the field sets me apart from others because there are many other players that look just like me, it all comes down to the attitude and want to.” Chico currently doesn’t have a top list of schools, he’s really weighing all of his options right now. He has to talk to his parents and uncle to see if he can make it out to UTSA sometime soon.
