UTSA released its post spring depth chart and here is what stood out to me the most.

  • Dalton Sturm and Jared Johnson are listed as "or" for starting quarterbacks
  • Jalen Rhodes is clear second string RB
  • Marquez McNair is penciled in at the slot receiver position before stepping on campus. The trio of JaBryce Taylor, Kerry Thomas and McNair is best UTSA has fielded on paper in the short history of the program.
  • Jevonte Domond is listed as the starter at RT. He'll be an instant upgrade at tackle. Austin Pratt and Kyle McKinney switched guard positions, with Stefan Beard at RG behind McKinney. That may change by the opener. Juan Perez is sure starter at center
  • The defense will have a three-man feel to it, even if it is still listed as a 4-2-5. Marcus Davenport is the fourth defensive end, but might end up being a stand-up rusher most of the time. The two "end" positions are occupied by former defensive tackles or bigger defensive ends. The "Sam" linebacker position is essentially a weakside defensive end in this defense.
  • The Mike linebacker battle between LSU transfer Ronnie Feist and freshman Josiah Tauaefa will be a lot of fun. As will the "Will" linebacker spot between La'Kel Bass and Marcos Curry. That's an impressive two-deep at both positions, and only one is a senior.
  • Looks like the former Rover position is now called Lion and Michael Egwuagu is moving back to use his coverage skills more. He'll be next to Nate Gaines. What UTSA called Dawg is now the Ram position and Chase Dahlquist is listed as the starter. Justin Chavez is the backup. Those are loose translations because the responsibilities of the two positions won't be the same as the old. UTSA didn't show a ton of two-deep safety action in the spring game.
  • N'Keal Bailey and Aneas Henricks won the cornerback battle.
  • Daniel Portillo listed as the FG kicker
