SAN ANTONIO -The UTSA men's basketball team will play 13 non-conference games this upcoming season, including matchups against Oklahoma, Nebraska, Tulsa and three games in Nassau, Bahamas, as part of the Island of Bahamas Showcase, second-year head coach Steve Henson announced Tuesday.

Roadrunner fans can get their first look at the 2017-18 squad on Nov. 7 as the program hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State in an exhibition game at the Convocation Center before officially opening the season Nov. 12 at home against East Central [Okla.].

"We are very excited about our nonconference schedule this year," said head coach Steve Henson. "Games at Oklahoma, Nebraska and Tulsa give us an opportunity to compete against very talented teams with rich traditions and great basketball environments. In addition, the Island of the Bahamas Showcase will be very beneficial as the event allows us an early opportunity to measure ourselves against several of the top mid-major programs in the nation.

"We have a couple of incredibly difficult stretches due to multiple games in a short amount of time against tough competition. And because we have an extremely young team, this rigorous schedule will prepare us for Conference USA play.”

The Roadrunners first road test of the season comes at local rival Texas State in San Marcos on Nov. 15. The team then travels to the Island of the Bahamas Showcase (Nov. 17-19) where they will play three games against mid-major opponents, starting with Sun Belt Conference member Coastal Carolina. UTSA’s final two showcase opponents will be determined at a later date.

UTSA returns from the Caribbean and hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Black Friday (Nov. 24), then travels to Tulsa for a matchup with the Golden Hurricane on Nov. 28 before hosting Ottawa [Ariz.] (Nov. 30).

Road contests at Utah Valley (Dec. 2) and Oklahoma (Dec. 4) precede home games against Houston Baptist (Dec. 9) and Bethany [Kan.] College (Dec. 16).

The nonconference slate concludes on Dec. 20 at Nebraska before the program breaks for the Christmas holiday.

As previously announced, the Roadrunners tip off league play against Rice on Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Convocation Center and stay home to host North Texas two days later.

UTSA will take on five C-USA opponents twice with home and road games against Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Southern Miss and UTEP during the 18-game conference slate.

The Roadrunners will welcome FIU, Florida Atlantic, Marshall and WKU to the Alamo City, while they are set to travel to Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion and UAB.

The C-USA Championship is slated for March 7-10 at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
