Media met with Coach Wilson and Jarveon Williams after Tuesday's practice. Here are highlights from the transcript.
Wilson
Wilson
- Says he's feeling "it" because the kids are feeling it. The excitement feeds off each other and getting closer to kickoff it gets contagious. We're excited.
- Defense got better in scrimmage Sunday. Offense won the previous scrimmage. Was really impressed with defense Sunday and liked how offense responded today.
- Nothing decided at quarterback
- Go ahead as preparation as usual. No gameplan specific for one QB, so it doesn't matter who is in the game. We go about our regular practice like both of our starter because it is one snap away with injury.
- Jared was behind in regards to the amount of snaps. Looks, fronts, blitz packages needed more reps. Both guys seeing what they need to prepare for kickoff.
- Likes the playmaking ability in the WR core. Enhances the run game. Some mystery around UTSA's identity on offense. We want the offense to work with what our guys do best. Frank (Scelfo) will call the plays. The offense is a collective of what Scelfo/Wilson have liked to run in the past.
- Nobody at 100 percent by this time in camp. We have good health because no one out for extended period of time, but the normal amount of bumps and bruises.
- Likes energy level and pursuit to the ball of defense. Caused four or five turnovers in scrimmage and Josiah with an INT in today's practice.
- Want the young guys to compete for playing time. That is the expectation on the recruiting trail. "We're trying to get good quick"
- JaBryce is a powerful guy. Count on him to do big things. Strong hands.
- Practice was good. Starting to get focus towards Alabama State.
- Happy school has started. Gets good energy. Have to juggle different stuff.
- No real gameplan for Alabama State, but less competing against each other in practice this week. (think he means less hitting, etc.)
- Thought offense could have done better in scrimmage. Have time to get it right before season.
- Defense looked good. They caused turnovers. It was nice to see even if it was against us.
- The QB battle is great. Competition breeds success. Both are leaders. Comes with position and both are taking the initiative and taking it serious.
- Ready to hit someone else
- Always nerves heading into season but complete confidence in team
- Taken on a leadership role, thinks it started last year. Enjoys being a leader.
- Good depth at RB position. Looking strong. Next man up if anyone goes down.
- Hope to surpass production from last year.
