Today at UTSA the media got time with Coach Wilson as well as Kerry Thomas and Josh Stewart. Stewart even asked Thomas a couple of questions in his interview. Here are the highlights.

Frank Wilson
  • It was a spirited day of practice. The guys flew around the field today.
  • Had some San Antonio high school coaches in to watch practice. It's always good to share with them and do some professional development. The local HS coaches are always welcome to come out to practice if their schedule permits it. It was good seeing them.
  • Advice for players in bowl preparation is keep the main thing the main thing. Ignore the noise and stay focused on the task at hand.
  • They weren't physically tired but mentally they hadn't gone this far into a season before. So I told them lets stand up and everybody stretch out and understand that you are one of the teams still playing. All it took was that little speech and they were spirited. You have to teach them how to practice in December and stay focused despite the distractions.
  • Timing is everything (in bowl preparation). Introduction into the opponent, the scouting report, the gameplan has to be strategic in a timely manner. You don't want it to get stale but you don't want to be too late on it. More important for us it's a time of reflection, a time to self scout and also for the development of our team. Yesterday and today was so much about UTSA. From this day forward that attention is more specifically to our opponent.
  • Having two quarterbacks able to go is for the betterment of the team. We do that at every position and the quarterback is no exception. Certain guys can do things that can generate offense for us and we'll continue to do the things that are necessary to give us an advantage.
  • Jared (Johnson) ability to do well off the bench comes from his experience. He's a fifth year senior with (FCS) championship experience. Dalton is in his first full year as a starter with half a year of experience prior to that. Experienced players can come off the bench with a calming effect, with poise and not be deterred. The culture here is the right way. The communication lines are open. It allows us to do what's best for us.
  • New Mexico's offense is totally different from any team we've faced this year.
