- There is so much to digest from a game plan standpoint on Tuesday. You see the myriad of fronts and coverages that can come on first and second downs. We introduced them to the blitz looks and all the things that can happen. A lot of good stuff today exposing our team to it but we have to continue to improve to get us where we need to be to master this game plan. We're not there today and we don't have to be but we strive to be there for Saturday.
- We prepare for the tendencies we've seen but we'll also prepare accordingly for things that might change during the game.
- Texas State has a talented football team. They have a linebacker corps thats as good as anybody we've faced. Their two defensive tackles are guys that can get up the field and condense the pocket. They're a little youthful in the back end of the secondary so they try to do different things to give them an advantage and camouflage what they're doing.
- Last year their special teams blocked eight kicks, three on punt and five on PAT or field goals.
- Their offense does a lot of good things. They're a zone read team, one back offense. Damian Williams does a good job of putting them in advantageous positions running the ball, using his feet as well as throwing the ball off the play action. They cater to his strengths really well.
- To be quite honest we haven't gone head to head with them for a lot of players. There may have been some players that we were evaluating that they offered. They do a good job of evaluating for what they need. Our needs may be a little different. There's been a couple that we've competed on but for the most part we identify our guys and go after them.
- I think this could build into a rivalry. I think the things that Coach (Withers) said are true, its hard to call it a rivalry after just one game. I get that but we embrace the challenge of the game and all that comes with it. Hoping for a great gameday atmosphere and the chance to compete against a quality team. It will be fun.
- Kyle McKinney was instrumental to the things that we are doing. The good thing is with all of our offensive line we cross train and they're able to play multiple positions. In situations like this we're able to get the next best guy, not the best tackle or the best guard but the best guy that gives us an advantage. Unfortunately Kyle is lost for the year with his injury. We wish him the very best. His spirits are high and he's in a good place right now. He's graduated. We love him. He's out here everyday with us and he will be a part of this until the end.
