Eight Days. That is all that is left between now and the first game of the Roadrunner's 2016 football season on Sept 3. Friday was an early day for the Roadrunners as they finished their last week of practice without an opponent looming. That being said there were times this week and especially Friday where the Roadrunners practiced against the expected schemes of Alabama State.
"We conducted today as if it were a (regular season) Friday practice and tomorrow (Saturday) we will play Alabama State amongst ourselves," UTSA Head Coach Frank Wilson said. "The game preparation continues to go in. Its not finalized yet."
Observations:
Among the mysteries that perplex mankind are Bigfoot's existence, is there life on other planets and who is the starting quarterback for the 2016 UTSA Roadrunner football team. It seems the UTSA quarterback will be the first mystery solved but at this point the smart money might be on Bigfoot and the Aliens.
"We're still not at a point where we're ready to name our starting quarterback," Wilson said. "I think today was a spirited day of practice by both quarterbacks. They did extremely well moving the offense down the field."
Whoever is quarterback for the Roadrunners will have plenty of targets to throw to in the form of the running backs and receiving corps. At the end of practice a few of the receivers were still tossing the ball around. Among those was senior wideout JaBryce Taylor. Regardless of who the quarterback is the rest of the Birds are ready for the season.
"I felt like we got some good work in today and now we're ready for September 3," Taylor said. "I've been talking to Jared and more of the seniors and saying this is our last promised season of football. We want to make it to the NFL but everything's not promised. We have to take this season one game at a time and go out there and execute and have fun."
There were also some more NFL scouts at the UTSA football practice on Friday. Representatives from the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans were on hand.
Eight days from now the mystery of starting quarterback might be solved. Or it might not be. Stay tuned.
