Bass was picked by many to beat out Marcos Curry for the Hawk linebacker spot in 2015, but injury forced him to miss the season. He's healthy now and started at Hawk in the spring game. He brings size to the position that Curry can't, and he's still plenty fast. He is our interview.
Q: How fulfilling is this spring after everything you went through in 2015?
A: Man, it's a blessing, you know? It happened for a reason, like my momma said. Me working hard every day to get back for this. All the trips to rehab for ice baths and heat and all that. It was all worth it and it all came full circle. It made me keep working harder. It pushed me.
Q: Is this defensive system different?
A: It's a lot different. We aren't forced to think as much, so we can go out there and make plays. We want to play simple and fast. Our job is to make plays. We see certain things and we can check out of it. We have our assignments, but we can also trusts our instincts. You want to play for guys like that. Guys who go 'okay, what did you see on that play?' and stuff like that. Our input is important because we're the ones out there on the field seeing it. That trust they give us is great.
Q: How is the competition battle at Hawk?
A: We both compete. Marcos and I are brothers, so it is nothing but love. We're trying to get better. When I go make a play, now he has to go make a play. When he makes a play, oh, now I have to make a play. It makes us both better, honestly. He's a worker and that makes me have to put in that same work. We get excited for each other.
