Media was able to interview Wilson, Juan Perez and Eg after practice. Here are some highlights.
Wilson
Wilson
- Went indoors yesterday. He likes the way the team has adapted to every "curveball" thrown the team's way. Dealt with weather last two days and guys still putting in work. Thinks it is sign of maturity. The players had a "desire and want" to practice. He's proud they wanted to practice.
- Can't throw the ball indoors, but still go through practice. Divide up and do individual/group work. Can't throw down the field. Makes it work.
- Guys living off campus will move out, but still have curfew through this week. Changes happen once school starts after scrimmage on Sunday.
- Getting a sense of the leaders on the team. Leadership helps with the transition.
- QB battle going well, very intense. No starter announced yet. Know timetable as of yet. Could go all the way until before kickoff.
- Important to get off to a fast start and get the fans gravitating towards the football team and style of play. It is entertainment and we want to entertain the city of San Antonio.
- "We win and they'll come. Just win."
- Had great things to say about the donors and that the fan base is sincere. Group of tailgaters and boosters fed the guys and showed they were with us during training camp. It was really fun and entertaining and the food was delicious. It was fajitas.
- Team was angry we had to go in because of weather. It was nice getting back on the field for much of today's practice. Says a lot that the weather didn't allow us to practice like a regular practice. Shows that we're tough.
- Defense is coming along fantastic. Guys can fly around and be free. Guys are buying into what the coaches want. I love it and I know my guys love it as well.
- He thinks it is a more aggressive defense. More pressure on the ball should cause turnovers.
- Sometimes the guys will be on island man-on-man and it is a challenge we like.
- Glad to be out of the dorms.
- Both QBs are getting after it and are hungry. Both guys competing for starting job and putting in work.
- The entire city is excited for the new era, the coach Wilson era. Think fans are excited to see what we bring and if we win they'll stay.
- Weather has been nice without the heat. Better to practice outdoors with more space and less noise.
- Both QBs looking good. There are still two weeks or so for them to compete. Doing a great job competing. I'll snap to whomever.
- There is definitely more depth in the offensive line position. Coach Pugh makes it easier on the younger guys to feel comfortable and that helps bring them along faster. Those guys are adjusting faster and building chemistry.
- Injuries are a part of football. It was difficult to watch my guys go out there and compete. I wish I was out there, but it happened. I'm blessed to be back out here with my brothers.
- The amount of sacks we gave up stood out and it is a chip on our shoulder. Coaches harped on pressing the delete button on last year and move to this year. As an offensive line, we can't focus on that because it may come back to haunt us again. We press that delete button and look forward and work on our technique.
- It's crazy how much energy the new staff brought to us. Coach Wilson is a great coach. Brings energy and enthusiasm. Coach Pugh is just like him, and all the assistant coaches are. It is easier to bound with him because he is young. There needs to be a nice bound between us and the coach to be great.
- More excitement to be moving out of the dorms.
- Just working at center right now. Can play other positions if needed. A lot of guys practicing different positions and it helps build depth. Cody Cole played a little guard today. The last staff didn't do that as much and it'll be a key for us. Helps us understand different positions and how the game works around us.
