Moving on with our series of threads on UTSA's recruiting status at the different positions, we come to the defensive ends. With the new staff employing what seems to be either a 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 type look, it's unclear just how that will affect DE recruiting going forward. The roster currently lists only three defensive tackles, and Kevin Strong and Jonathan Tuiolosega - both of whom were recruited as DTs and formerly listed at that position - are now categorized as DEs. And even Marcus Davenport, listed as a DE on the roster, may end up playing something similar to the role of a 3-4 rush end LB.
So how the current and future Roadrunner DEs are deployed once on the field will be interesting to watch going forward. So far the team does not have a 2017 commit at the position, or for the defensive line at all, but we're still just under seven months away from Signing Day. Only four of the guys listed here are from Texas, and there's bound to be more in-state DEs offered as the staff becomes more familiar with the state's landscape.
