Jeff Traylor and staff made it a point to offer offensive lineman in the state Texas early in the 2021 cycle. One of those talented lineman is Mansfield guard River Gordon. The 6’4”, 275 pound linemen holds offers from Air Force, Furman, Morgan State, and UTSA before the summer camp circuit gets underway. I had a chance to talk to him about his recruitment and UTSA.
“I have talked to coach (Matt) Mattox for a while and once he started at UTSA I sent him my junior year film. Coach (Ty) Gatson is the one I have been communicating with the most.”
Things are early in the process between UTSA and Gordon, but things seem to be off to a good start between both parties.
“The staff has been great and I know Coach Traylor is a big time Texas guy. I’m excited to meet him and see all the coaching staff on the 28th.”
Gordon has not visited UTSA in the past, but he tells me he has visited San Antonio.
I asked Gordon about his initial impressions of UTSA and San Antonio as a whole.
“The coaching staff and the city. I hope to get to know more about the school when I visit on the 28th. I’m also excited to see all the new changes coming to the facilities.”
Apart from those initial offers Gordon tells me Army, Navy, Oklahoma, Harvard, and Cal have started to reach out.
As for what Gordon is looking for in a program.
“It’s important for me to be somewhere that my family can easily come to see me play games. I would like a school with a good business/finance program and a football program that can help me develop as an athlete.”
He tells me UTSA could be that program, but also says things are still early. Gordon wants to visit the programs that have offered him.
Gordon will get a chance to visit UTSA for the first time on the 28th for Junior Day.
