UTSA held their second big scrimmage of the spring yesterday. Below are notes and observations from people close to the program.

Notes
  • Quarterback depth chart looks to be Frank Harris, Cordale Grundy, Lowell Narcisse.
  • Jordan Weeks is not out of it, but has ground to make up.
  • Brenden Brady is on his way to becoming the starter.
  • Offensive line looks improved from last season.
  • Defensive might take a slight step back without a guy like Tauaefa, but still enough talent to be good.
  • Solomon Wise continues to impress. Might be the breakout player of 2019.
  • Punter Lucas Dean has been solid.
  • Sincere McCormick is going to be good. Has the ability to break one off at any second.
  • B.J. Daniels is struggling with consistency a bit. Had a big run, but fumbled a few plays later.
  • Andrew Martel had a forced fumble.
Observations

On the offense
:
Offense could have finished more drives, but coaches had them work on situational stuff. It was more about playing from difficult scenarios than scoring.

Offensive line looked good. Most runs were for positive gains. The wide receivers need to work on getting out of the their breaks quicker because Frank Harris can throw the ball into tight spots. Harris has no problem pulling it down and taking off though.

Players who stood out:
Frank Harris looked good. Carlos Strickland at tight end looked good. He’s going to be a problem for defenses. Sincere McCormick had a good day.

On Frank Harris:
His ability to avoid defenders is impressive. His throwing angles are crazy. He just knows where to go at all times.

On the defense:
Defensive ends looked good. Solomon Wise is playing really well this spring. Linebackers still trying to find their way. Andrew Martel has been solid since moving down. Clayton Johnson appears to be having a solid spring.
