The Roadrunners are halfway through their Spring Practice schedule. Coach Wilson along with three players were available to speak with the media after today's practice.

Frank Wilson
  • I think we are on schedule. I would have liked more today. I thought today started off sluggish for the first time this spring but we picked up toward the end. They were challenged and they answered the bell.
  • You'd like that continued self motivation to be there but sometimes they need leadership to emerge and us to bring them along, to stir the pot to get us going.
  • Old habits start creeping back in. This program is about the team, always has been, always will be. We do things in uniform(ity). When guys think its important for their individuality to show we're here to remind them that won't be the case. That kind of tried to rear its head today. Of course it was rejected and we got back into the UTSA Roadrunner way and went on to have a productive practice.
  • We work on Red zone plays weekly during the season, we worked on them today from a red zone passing scheme, on Wednesday we'll do a little bit of both and on Saturday it will be full fledged length of the field. We put emphasis on red zone plays twice a week.
  • It's a real task to go the length of the field, to put together double-digit play drives requires discipline, attention to detail and consistency. When you get there after putting a drive together the ability to punch the ball into the end zone is critical for us, whether it be by field goal or touchdown and vice versa from a defensive standpoint, to hold on with back to the wall and try to deny the offense.
  • Matt Guidry has done a good job on kickoff returns this spring and Kirk Johnson has done well also. As far as punt returns we are still looking at a number of guys who could fill that role.
  • Bryce Rivers is growing. He's still times youthful and makes a youthful mistake here or there, he's a very mature young man and has been a student of the game. I think he's making strides in all the right directions.
