I got to talk with Stone Norton, the out of state quarterback from Davidson Academy. Stone told me that his recruitment has been great so far and that he’s been hearing from a ton of schools. He said that he mainly hears from are FIU, UTSA, UT Martin, Temple and Mississippi State. When it comes to UTSA, he mainly hears from Coach Will Thomas. We talked about the relationship that he has with Coach Thomas, and he said, “I love Coach Thomas, he’s a great guy! Talking to him sounds like they’re really about family at UTSA, and that’s really important to me.”

He told me that Coach Frank Wilson is a “fantastic coach” and that he hasn’t really gotten to talk with him just yet, but he’s really looking forward to doing so. We talked about his opinion of UTSA, and he spoke highly saying, “I feel like UTSA would be a great fit for me as a school! They have a huge choice of degrees and it’s in San Antonio, so I feel like there are a lot of opportunities.” He also said that UTSA is athletically up there with anybody, and he spoke about Marcus Davenport going in the top 15 of the NFL Draft and how that was really eye opening to him.

What does Stone look for in a school to commit to? “I look for a great group of coaches that care about their players on the field and off of it. Also, the academic part is really important to me, because one day football will eventually end.” We also talked about what sets him apart from other QB’s in the class, and he said, “I think I’m unique because of how hard I work. I will go work every day and give 110% to try and get myself better and my teammates better.” Stone currently doesn’t have a top list of schools because he said he wants to try and get some more offers before he narrows things down. Norton ended things by saying, “Also, I think I’m different than other quarterbacks because my head coach right now played QB in the NFL for 8 years, so I know how to read defenses really well.” This is certainly a great advantage for Stone and will provide him with a great opportunity to make himself even better.
