Interested in what everyone's thoughts are regarding today's open practice. Here are my observations:
Offense:
First team looked good. Run blocking looked much better than last year and Jarveon looks like he is going to have a special season. Bogenschutz was efficient. A strong running game will make this offense click. There is room for improvement on the pass blocking but overall the 1st team OL looks solid. Kenny Bias caught a couple of long TDs today.
Second team & third team drops off pretty significantly especially the OL. Some good skill players in these groups will get into the WR & RB rotation. Robinson ran a lot under pressure so hard to comment on any improvement. Really think he should move to another position. Sturm didn't have as good a practice as he did at the last open practice. Once agin the 3rd string OL has a lot of freshmen that need time to grow & learn. Make it hard to evaluate QB & RB positions.
Field goal kicking was inconsistent. Needs to improve. Found myself missing Ianno today.
Defense:
First team Secondary looked pretty solid as well as LBs. Defensive line had decent pass rush but had a tough time stopping the run.
Second & third team defense dominated their offensive counterparts. Defense has a lot of speed and talent. Like what I see.
Punting was lacking today as well. Needs to improve.
