I had the opportunity to catch up with Tony Bradford Jr., the 6’2” 235 pound defensive end out of North Shore, about his recruitment. Tony told me that his recruitment has been going great so far, and that he’s been receiving mail from many different D1 schools. The two main schools that he’s been hearing from are Memphis and SMU. When asked about which coaches from UTSA he hears from the most, Bradford said, “Coach Davis is the only coach from UTSA that I hear from on a daily.”
Tony spoke highly of Coach Frank Wilson, saying, “I love Coach Wilson. I hope when I go up there, I get a chance to meet him face to face.” I continued on by asking him about his opinions of UTSA, and Bradford went on to say, “I love how the football games are inside a closed stadium, that right there alone is a plus.” When asked about what he looks for in a school to commit to, Tony told me “I want a relationship with my coaches so I can know that if I need someone to talk to, it can be with them about anything.” He also said that he would like for his university of choice to be in the city and in the state of Texas. The fact that he wants to stay in Texas definitely bodes well for UTSA. Tony described what sets him apart compared to others at his position by saying, “I may be a little shorter than and not as heavy as other kids that play my position, but no one has a motor like me and the heart I have for this sport.” The heart and motor of a player are some of those unmeasurable attributes that coaches really long for in their players.
Tony told me that he will be at UTSA’s junior day on February 24th, and he’s “just excited to see the campus and hear about future plans and goals for the program and meet the coaches.” He told me that his top 2 schools are the schools that he has offers from, which are Memphis and UTSA. Let’s hope that the coaching staff can make a great impression on Bradford when he comes in for junior day later this month.
