I caught up with Garrison Johnson, the talented running back out of Manvel. Garrison told me that he mainly hears from Memphis, Bama, Tulsa, OU and Cal. He says that there are many more he’s hearing from, but those are the main ones. Johnson also hears from UTSA, and he’s hearing from Coach Sands and Wilson. He also said that all of the schools are showing the same amount of love, so there’s not one standing out over another.
I asked about his relationship with the two aforementioned coaches, and he said, “It’s real good, we talk daily and I’m real comfortable with them.” It’s great to hear that he hears from them all the time and is very comfortable with them. Garrison took a visit to UTSA a couple of months back and it seemed like he enjoyed his time there. Johnson also told me that he plans to visit UVA and South Alabama in June. So where does UTSA stand in Garrison’s recruitment? Simply put by him, “Top 6.”
When asked about what sets him apart from other players at his position, he told me, “I’ve always been a different player, such as I’m more physical than other backs. I bring a different game.” His physicality certainly does set him apart from others. We continued by talking about what Garrison looks for in a school to commit to, and he explained saying, “School first, family atmosphere, relationships and playing as a freshman.” Garrison hopes to come in and compete for immediate playing time, which it seems like he could possibly do at UTSA. Garrison recently gave his verbal commitment to North Texas earlier this week.
