NEW YORK — UTSA senior tight end Oscar Cardenas has been named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award for the third straight season, The Friends of John Mackey announced on Friday.

Cardenas is one of 48 players on this year’s list for the award which is presented annually to college football’s most outstanding tight ends.

Eight semifinalists will be announced on Oct. 29 and three finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 26. The winner will be announced during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.

Cardenas, a product of San Antonio Brandeis High School, is a two-time all-conference performer for the Roadrunners. Last season, he caught 32 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns en route to being named to the All-American Athletic Conference Third Team. The Shrine Bowl 1000 list member has 82 receptions for 997 yards and six TDs in 57 career games.

Sixteen National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) members are unveiling preseason watch lists over a 12-day period as the association spearheads a coordinated effort to promote each award’s preseason candidates. UTSA has been picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Media Poll. The Roadrunners will kick off the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they host Kennesaw State at 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome.

Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling the UTSA Ticket Office at 210-458-UTSA (8872) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Current UTSA football season-ticket holders may renew their tickets by logging into their UTSA Account Manager.

Season tickets start as low as $90 per seat. Payment plans for all season ticket packages are available.

Current UTSA students receive free admission to all home games by downloading tickets via their Account Manager.
