SAN ANTONIO — The NCAA unveiled this week its latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data and UTSA Athletics has achieved several milestones.
UTSA saw nine programs record a perfect 1,000 APR for the 2016-17 academic year, tied for the most in Conference USA along with Florida Atlantic and UAB. The nine sports with perfect APRs are women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, soccer, softball, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s track & field and volleyball.
Nine UTSA programs registered a multiyear APR that ranked in the top three in C-USA in their respective sports, including four at the top of the list with a perfect 1,000 score in women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf and volleyball. The other sports that ranked in the top three include softball, men’s indoor track & field, women’s indoor track & field, men’s outdoor track & field and women’s outdoor track & field.
Additionally, a total of 10 UTSA programs improved or maintained their multiyear APRs from the previous report, including perfect multiyear rates of 1,000 for the second straight year by men’s golf and volleyball.
“At UTSA we celebrate our student-athletes, and this latest APR report is a tribute to their success academically,” Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos said. “Their commitment to be champions in the classroom requires hard work and responsibility throughout the year. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. It measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The multiyear rates are based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
Last week, the UTSA women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf and volleyball programs received Public Recognition Awards for having multiyear rates in the top 10 percent nationally in their sport. All four programs achieved a perfect multiyear rate of 1,000.
The four Public Recognition Awards mark the most received in one year in school history. UTSA now has received 11 awards in the 13-year history of the program, including seven in the last two years.
UTSA also recorded a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 82 percent, marking the second straight year with a GSR of 80 percent or better.
