SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head football coach Jeff Traylor on Monday announced the addition of NJCAA All-America running back Tye Edwards from Hutchinson Community College to the program’s early signing class.

Edwards, a native of Palatka, Fla., will join 13 other student-athletes — Tyrone Brown, Zach Causey, Chace Davis, Payne He’Bert, Deandre Marshall, Owen Pewee, Jamar Richardson, Ben Rios, Jared Sackett, Diego Tello, Brandon Tennison, Houston Thomas and Jace Wilson — who inked with the Roadrunners last week on the first day of the early signing period.

The class now features an even split of seven transfers and seven who are coming from the high school ranks. Of the transfers, four are moving to San Antonio from an FBS program — including three from Power 5 teams — while the other three last played at a junior college.

Of the 14 signees, 10 hail from the state of Texas with two apiece from San Antonio, Central Texas, East Texas, the Greater Houston Area and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The out-of-state signees are from Alabama, California, Florida and Mississippi.

Eight members of the class are offensive players, five are pegged for the defensive side of the ball and one is a specialist.
