Coach Marshall looks to be trotting out a team that should score a bunch of runs. Unfortunately, it looks like the pitching staff may not be ready to prevent a bunch of runs.

The batting lineup should matchup with anyone else in the conference.

    Markham - CF
    Baker - RF
    Bowles - LF
    Jackson - 1B
    Brookover - DH
    Pickering - 2B
    Arias - SS
    George - C
    Estrada - 3B

That's a lot of thump in a lineup.

    Is Skyler Valentine injured?

Looking at the roster there are a lot of new names in the pitchers group. Just need a couple of them to step up and stay healthy!

What better way to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of a conference championship than winning another conference championship?!?!?!

I have not heard anything regarding Valentine. I he is healthy I can see him starting at 2B and moving Pickering to 3B.

The team started out slow. After the 5th inning they turned on the heat. But we had 3 errors in the first innings that killed us. several guys had some bad throws. Coaches stopped a few players at bases that could have scored. I guess to play it safe. Of course we had one really bad call be one of the refs.
The team still looked good. There is definitely unity and electricity among this group.

I have a feeling we will come out HOT today. There is no reason we shouldn't be 3-1 after this weekend

Barf. No pitching depth and errors galore. Looks like a repeat of 2016.

Bad pitching, a ton of fielding errors, and lack of clutch hitting. They put up a lot of runs but they left a ton of runners on base.

Is "Q" good or are the runners not very good? According to preseason reports, everyone was healed and there was a stable of decent pitchers. The defense was vastly improved. I take that is not the case or is it too early to call it a season? It's a long season and we could see some improvement.

One thing I did notice as I was checking out the new pitchers coming in and frankly none of them really stuck out. Good in junco or high school but not dominate. I'll give them another 12 games to see if they can rebound.

I wasn't able to make it to any games so I can't speak to how anyone looked in person, but after watching a bunch of games last season it all sound so familiar.

That being said, the offense is going to be very good. Did Geonte Jackson even play this weekend?

It is the first series so I am not too worried. Lets see how they do against SFA this weekend before pressing the panic button.

UTSA got seven runs in the third inning last night to beat SFA 10-5. Second game of the series is today at 2 pm.

14-1 yesterday. Great pitching by Nolan Trabanino. I expect Chance Kirby to go today.

Great sweep but starting pitching (trabanino the exception) was still not very good. Bullpen showed up though. Good weekend for Coach Marshall.

The offense is humming right along.. 13 home runs in 6 games, is that good?? We need to take care of business against A&MCC before a huge match up next weekend against a strong Utah team.

Great win over Texas A&M CC last night. Dressler retired 12 of the 13 guys he faced and is now sitting at a 2.79 ERA after 2 starts. Big lefty might force his way into the weekend rotation.

Bats are on absolute fire right now. Markham and Bowles are both hitting right around .500, and 6 other guys are at .290 and above.

So good to see Bowles bounce back strong. Freshman All America followed by the sophomore slump.

Would love to see Dressler get a shot this Sunday (4 game series) against Utah and flip that into a regular weekend gig going into conference play.

    This thread pleases me.

The bullpen has been pretty much lights out so far. Outside of 2 True Freshman and CJ Pickering the rest of the bullpen has an ERA under 4. The JUCO guys have been very solid so far. Fingers crossed that continues.

Patel with one of the worsts stat lines you'll ever see from his start on Friday. Glad they battled back in the 2nd game of double header and got the win.

I have mixed emotions on the season so far. I think most of us had high hopes for this season. We have some great players in the line up. After talking with a lot of parents that said the team had a lot of energy and the players are working together well.I was a little displaced like most of us on the first series. We swept SFA and pulled out the win against Corpus.
I missed the first two games against Utah but was there on Sunday. The team looked flat. There was no intensity . They were not making plays on the ball that they definitely could of. A couple of bad throws pulled the first baseman off base allowing the run. Hitting was bad. A lot of half hearted lazy late swings at the ball. The out field would not slide over to cover the bad throws or hits at all. Once the team new they did not have a chance to win. They definitely gave up. I feel that there is a lack of coaching, but that is my opinion only.
Watching Utah play was pretty cool. They had better fundamentals all over the field.
I am hoping that the team turns around and gets more consistency. Hopefully they will have the kinks worked out for conference play.

We beat SFA (4-9), Corpus Christi (1-10) and Quinnipiac (5-5). Wait until we get to play some very strong CUSA teams. That will certainly determine how this team will fare for the season. The season is relatively young so hopefully they will improve. One thing that Marshall stated was that the defense was vastly improved. That has not been the case. And of course pitching (except for Trabinino and a couple of others) and its lack of depth and quality is rearing its ugly head again.

But we really need to improve our junior high facilities to at least a DII level, like St. Mary's. I was under the impression that Hickey was looking at making some significant improvements to the birdbath to a tune of $10 mil. Has that gone by the wayside? Improved facilities will have a tremendous effect on recruiting quality players.

Yes, she recently quoted a 17 mil figure and said it was pretty much shelved due to needing to upgrade football facilities.

Essentially all the money that was going to be used for baseball got used when Frank Wilson was hired. Upgrades, buyouts, etc.

The facilities are not the best but they have come a LONG way in the last 10 years believe me. I have a very hard time blaming Coach Marshall, let's not forget that he had the team making noise in a regional in 2013. It's not like we have an awesome history of making regionals....

Identifying and DEVELOPING pitchers is our biggest problem. If a shake up is needed, here is the main target area.

Lastly, the camo hats are god awful. They do not look good with any uniform combo and they certainly don't look good on any fan walking down the street.

Facility improvements are important and needed but I think UTSA should hire a real pitching coach first.

I agree with the need of facilities. I am surprised that baseball was not taken care of way before football even started. But even without that I believe fundamentals are still important . The sloppy play is frustrating .

Based on the box scores we were competitive in all 3 games.

I Don't think we've ever won on the road against a top 10 team, I'm proud of the guys for taking one.

Hopefully this gives them the confidence needed to dominate CUSA

We beat Baylor who was ranked #3 on the road many years ago. Or was that at the Wolf? Shit, now I can't remember.
