I didn't write posts giving the playoff schedules for UTSA commits in rounds three or four, but there wouldn't have been a lot to write about in any case. Only one future Roadrunner is still playing now, defensive tackle commit Morris Joseph, whose West Orange-Stark team is in the 4A Division II state semifinal round and will play Geronimo Navarro tonight at 7:30 at Houston's NRG Stadium.
WO-S is undefeated, finished the regular season as the clear #1 team in Class 4A, and has outscored its first 14 opponents 738-56, which my calculator says is an average winning margin of nearly 49 points. Just two of their opponents - two! - have scored more than seven points against them this season. They've run roughshod over their first four playoff foes by a combined score of 217-24. Their opponent, Navarro, is also undefeated and finished the regular season as 4A's fifth-ranked team.
Navarro hasn't been as dominating on defense but they mostly haven't had problems scoring points, and average 48 points per game. They've beaten every opponent by at least 14 points except for Refugio, the 2nd-ranked team in Class 2A, who they beat 14-6 in September, and who will play in the 2A Division I state semifinals tonight in Sam Marcos. The only common opponent WO-S and Navarro share is Giddings, who Navarro beat 37-21 in week one, and who West Orange-Stark beat 48-5 in last week's 4A Division II Region 3 final.
As far as I can tell, the only other UTSA commit who was still playing as late as last week was offensive lineman Brian Thomas, whose Scotlandville team reached Louisiana's Division I (private school) state championship but lost to Shreveport Evangel Christian 38-6.
Had DE commit Javaris Steward stayed out of trouble with the law he would also be playing this week, as his former school, Denton Ryan, is in the 5A Division I state semifinals and plays Highland Park Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Steward was arrested in September in connection with an aggravated robbery, and according to Denton County district court records, he was formally indicted for both aggravated robbery and theft of a firearm (both felonies) on November 22.
