Week one was mostly a good one for UTSA's four commits, at least on the stat sheet if not the scoreboard. Here's the week two schedule and some notes.

WR Jack Giblin (Port Neches-Groves)
Last week: caught 9 passes for 101 yards and a TD in a 52-0 win over Houston Clear Lake
This week: Friday September 4 at 7:00 vs. West Orange-Stark
Port Neches-Groves vs. West Orange-Stark. Golden Triangle battle of the hyphens, IMO. Seems a little weird for a 5A school to schedule their non-district games against a 6A school and two 4As, but whatever gets you ready for district play, I guess. WO-S can usually be counted on to have some athletes, so I'd guess their secondary will give Giblin a better test than he got from Clear Lake.

DE Jarrod McLin (Carthage)
Last week: lost to Hallsville 39-38, in overtime
This week: Friday September 4 at 7:30 at Lindale
Carthage lost after failing to convert a two-point attempt following a touchdown in overtime. Carthage was unsuccessful on three other two-point conversion attempts, and also missed a last-second 44-yard field goal that would have ended the game. I'm guessing they'll be spending extra time on special teams work this week. Their next opponent, Lindale, opened its season by shutting out Tyler Chapel Hill, the team Jack Giblin and Port Neches-Groves will face in week three.

DB Innis Gaines (Beaumont West Brook)
Last week: defeathed Beaumont Central 27-24
This week: Friday September 4 at 7:00 at Beaumont Ozen
You can watch Gaines's highlights vs. Central here. He appeared to have two INTs in those clips, but the Beaumont Enterprise's box score only lists Central throwing one interception. West Brook's defense held Central - whose RB Devwah Whaley has offers from such powers as Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Georgia, among over a dozen others - to 172 yards of offense and only 8 first downs, and Central completed only 6 of 21 pass attempts. Whaley finished with a mere 45 yards on 18 carries.

DB Carrington Kearney (Pflugerville Hendrickson)
Last week: completed 10 of 19 passes for 88 yards and 1 INT, and rushed 19 times for 9 yards in a 12-9 loss to Converse Judson.
This week: Friday September 4 at 7:30 vs. Belton
Kearney is playing QB for Hendrickson this season. Needless to say, the Judson game won't feature prominently in his senior highlights. His rushing stats were hurt by a 12-yard TD run that was nullified by a penalty that appeared to happen far from the play. Hendrickson and Judson combined to reach the end zone only twice and gained only 488 total yards.
